Edouard Manet was a French painter.  He was one of the first 19th century artist to paint modern life, and an important figure in the transition of Realism art to Impressionism.

Artwork Description:

This is a very small painting by Edouard Manet and done between 1877 & 1881.  In the painting it appears that a well dressed man has shot himself and the gun is visible in his right hand.  The body is lying on the bed.  This was a depiction of an actual incident that was committed by one of Manet's assistant.
